Overview & Highlights

This is for you if: You want a fun and memorable guided kayak camping adventure on one of Tennessee's most beautiful lakes.

Are you looking for a real adventure that will take you to one of the prettiest areas in Northeast Tennessee? Join our kayak instructor guides for our Kayak Overnight Adventure as they take you on a leisurely paddle tour of the mountain-ringed emerald-green waters of Watauga Lake and then paddle up to your campsite at Carden's' Bluff Campground, a Forest Service-managed campground with full amenities.

Upon arriving you will be greeted by your instructors and meet your fellow adventurers. We limit group size to 8 to make for a more personalized experience and to minimize our footprint. Our instructors will then lead you through a review of boats, gear and safety information and we will inventory your gear to make sure you have everything you need. Next, you will be outfitted to one of our top-of-the-line recreational kayaks, paddles and life jackets and we will load up our boats so that everything stays dry and is evenly distributed.

Now the real fun begins as we take it to the water where your instructors will lead you through a review of paddling strokes and techniques so that you safely get the most out of your experience. We then embark on our tour of the lake by paddling to an island where we will break for lunch, and then continue our journey as we paddle along the shoreline, into coves, and occasionally stop to rest, relax and, for those interested, go for a swim.

That afternoon we'll paddle up to our lakeside campsites at Carden's Bluff Campground, set up camp (your instructors will help you set up tents as needed), make dinner and settle in for the evening. As night falls, we'll relax by the fire, roast marshmallows and enjoy good company. Or, maybe you'd prefer to watch the stars gradually make their apperance in peaceful silence - it's your call. And our instructors will be happy to answer any camping, kayaking or general outdoor questions you may have.

The next morning we'll break camp, reload our kayaks and gradually make our way back to wrap up our overnight kayak adventure with new memories and new friends.

Kayak, paddle, life jacket, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad and dry bags are provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own gear if they would like.

After registering your instructor will send you recommendations on how to prepare and pack, as well as a link to a video where we walk you through some tips and tricks to help you get ready for what is sure to be a highlight of your year!

  • Testimonials

"Tri-Cities area and beyond are very fortunate to have a place like NOLI nearby. Something for everyone. The one and only thing that sucks about Kayak Camping with them (second year) is that it ALWAYS goes by way too fast; if only I could have extended this vacation."
