Overview & Highlights
This is for you if: You want an in-depth and fun familiarization with essential wilderness survival concepts and skills.
Despite our best efforts we may find ourselves lost or injured in the backcountry where help or rescue is not immediately available. This fun one-day course familiarizes participants with many of the essential concepts of wilderness survival that will help you stack the odds in your favor including preparation, prevention, attitude, shelter, fire craft, knife use, water procurement, knot tying and rescue signaling. The focus is on providing practical, real-world skills to use if lost or injured in a wilderness setting, with a focus on the first 72 hours.
Our survival classes are held in the Cherokee National Forest and Appalachian Highlands of Northeast Tennessee, with primary locations in the Erwin and Hampton areas. Upon meeting our group, we will make the easy short hike to camp (1/4 - 1/2 mile) and embark on a fun-filled, empowering and memorable experience. Lead instructor is NOLI founder and former Ranger-qualified Army officer Scott Fisher who has been teaching wilderness skills for over 30 years. All equipment provided. Suitable both for those with and without experience. Minimum age is 10. Specific meeting location varies by class but all sites are within 30 minutes of Johnson City.
