Overview & Highlights
This is for you if: You want our most comprehensive wilderness survival course in order to maximize your knowledge and proficiency.
There is simply no substitute for time in the saddle when learning or improving skills and this especially holds true for wilderness survival skills. To become truly proficient requires the right training and consistent exposure to the knowledge, fundamentals and hands-on practice that make these skills second nature. Our comprehensive 4-day Wilderness Survival Immersive goes into the greatest detail on the essential concepts of wilderness survival and provides participants with the best opportunity to develop essential skills in a supportive and fun environment where your instructor is there to help you learn and succeed. The course combines the content of our Wilderness Survival and Wilderness Survival 201 courses and gives participants several consecutive days to hone their abilities and come away with lasting proficiencies and an unforgettable experience.
Most survival situations resolve within the first 72 hours, so our focus in this course is on providing practical, real-world skills to use if lost or injured in a wilderness setting to help you find your way to safety by self-rescue or rescue by others. Topics include preparation, prevention, attitude, shelter, firecraft, knife use, craftmanship, water procurement, knot tying, aidless navigation, rescue signaling, cordage making, flora and fauna. This course affords participants with significant time for hands-on training during practical exercises and scenarios where participants are challenged to use skills they have learned in simulated conditions. On the third day participants will build their own shelter and have the opportunity to sleep in it that night. Day 3 overnight is part of the curriculum, but participants are welcome to camp onsite each night at no additional cost.
Our survival classes are held in the Cherokee National Forest and Appalachian Highlands of Northeast Tennessee, with primary locations in the Erwin and Hampton areas. Upon meeting our group, we will make the easy short hike to camp (less than ~1/4 mile) and embark on a fun-filled, empowering and memorable experience. Lead instructor is NOLI founder and former Ranger-qualified Army officer Scott Fisher who has been teaching wilderness skills for over 30 years. All equipment provided. Suitable both for those with and without experience. Minimum age is 10. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Specific meeting location varies by class but all sites are within 30 minutes of Johnson City.
